The Print
The Print, by Ansel Adams
Book three in Ansel Adams' classic series on photography, completed shortly before his death in 1984. This is essential reading for anyone interested in making his or her own black and white prints.

Travel Novels & Journals

Bad Trips, Keath Praser, J. Laslocky (Editor)
My brother gave this to me as a gift before I headed off on my world trip. It's an anthology of traveling mishaps by some great travel writers.

The Sheltering Sky, Paul Bowles
Set in Morocco, this is one of my all time favorites, I love Bowles stuff. The Bertolucci movie is quite good too!

The Spider's House, Paul Bowles
If you liked Sheltering Sky, try this one by Bowles. It's set in Fez and told from the perspective of a local boy. I loved it!

Riding the Iron Rooster, Paul Theroux
A classic about train travel in China by one of the best travel writers.

Photography Texts

Photography, Bruce Warren
This a great, comprehensive text on black and white and color photography, darkroom techniques, lighting, etc. I got my start in photography with this text.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the master...

The Negative, Ansel Adams
